The benefit of drip irrigation in the cultivation of apples
Apples grow on trees on the open ground. Some growers have already exchanged the field for gutters so that they can manage more efficiently. Do you choose the traditional way? Then we advise a precision irrigation system. Wasting water is prevented and the grower himself decides the quantities of fertiliser that he administers. Discover all advantages.
Apple cultivation and drip irrigation
Solutions in apple cultivation
Filtration of irrigation systems
The drippers in a precision irrigation system have a small diameter. Apple growers who cultivate on the open ground on sand or clay may have to deal with clogging. Filtration prevents this. The plastic system in combination with metal filters protects the drip irrigation system. This way the highest possible yield of the crop is realised.
Night frost irrigation
The apple grower protects his fruit from wintry temperatures with night frost irrigation. By irrigating the blossom, a layer of ice is formed. This produces coagulation heat, and this heat protects the buds of the plant. Because the water freezes, the buds of the plant are protected. Irrigation from above with sprinklers is suited for that. No need to shelve the installation for the summer: apple growers can use it to water the fruit and to cool it on hot days.
Advantages of targeted irrigation:
- Dripping into the root zone saves water
- The leaves of the plants remain dry, preventing fungi growth
- Water evaporates slower, therefore less waste water
- It is energy efficient: less energy is required to pump the water around
