Save costs, increase productivity - Viridix RooTense irrigation technology

New developments in the agricultural sector make our heart for water beat faster. So do products and systems that make water readily available, while also saving costs and promoting productivity. Following our mission to supply smart irrigation technology, we offer you the latest development: RooTense.

  • The RooTense will last for decades, without requiring any maintenance. This in itself makes the investment worthwhile.
  • RooTense is a smart irrigation technology, that not only measures the amount of water in the soil, but also the suction pressure of the crop.
  • Furthermore, it allows you to know how hard the plant has to 'work' to get sufficient water. You can see that data in a desktop or mobile app and use it to adjust irrigation.

If you value smart investments that will pay you and the environment back in return, RooTense is for you.

RooTense pays back the environment

Growers who water their land with a huge water cannon still exist. It costs gallons of water and diesel to keep the beast running and it offers no guarantee that plants are watered effectively. After all, this old technology doesn't secure that water actually reaches the roots, or that there is no overwatering.

In contrast, RooTense gives you a guarantee. The sensors in the soil measure the suction pressure of the root. If too much water is being sprayed, you simply reduce the volume accordingly.

Used in combination with our drip hoses, RooTense offers growers dual savings. Only half of the volume of water is used with drip irrigation, and a lighter pump is needed, as the operating pressure is far lower. Win-win, we say.

How to use RooTense? Download the app

Before commencing, you install the sensor at an appropriate spot on the plot. Bosta recommends that you choose a spot where the soil reflects the average of the entire area of land. Bury the two sensors at depth of up to 30cm, then install the box about one metre above ground level.

Activate the control system by simply downloading the Viridix RooTense app. Scan the QR code on the RooTense box, and you can then read the measurements remotely. Wherever and whenever you choose.

Zero water waste

Harm considers it a sport to use as little water as possible, and use water efficiently. For instance, he has fitted equipment including a solar water heater and a wastewater system that reuses rainwater. As he has various relatives engaged in arable farming, Harm is all too aware of the importance of proper irrigation.

'Water is becoming increasingly scarce. I get a great deal of satisfaction from the efficient use of water. Both in my personal and working lives.' - Harm
